Partners in Caring

At SCI, we believe in giving back and we are committed to supporting causes that enhance and promote the well-being of individuals from all walks of life. One way we are uniquely positioned to fulfill that commitment is through the SCI Foundation, our Company's nonprofit charitable giving arm. Through partnerships with organizations such as the Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors (TAPS), the National Alliance for Children's Grief (NACG) and Donate Life America, we're able to make a difference in the communities where our associates live and work.

TAPS

Honoring those who serve is one of our company's steadfast missions. Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors, or TAPS, provides comfort, care and resources to all those grieving a military or veteran loss. Their programming includes educational seminars, grief camps for children and teens, grief support groups, peer mentorships and more. Through our partnership with TAPS, we're able to support all those who have experienced a military or veteran loss, and the veteran community as a whole.

Comforting those who grieve is a shared purpose of Dignity Memorial and the National Alliance for Children's Grief, a national nonprofit organization that provides resources and education for professionals, parents and caregivers supporting grieving children and teens. Their extensive network of member organizations provides opportunities for Dignity Memorial locations to be more connected to the families we serve and the community as a whole.

Dignity Memorial is a proud partner of Donate Life America and is committed to raising awareness of the life-saving gifts of organ and tissue donation. In addition to continuing our sponsorship of the Donate Life Rose Parade® Float, our partnership with Donate Life America provides locations with more opportunities to build enduring relationships with the organ, eye and tissue donation community, as well as resources to support families of donors. As part of our belief in celebrating the significance of life, we encourage individuals to register as organ, eye and tissue donors.

United Way

SCI is a long-time supporter and committed champion of the United Way of Greater Houston. We believe supporting United Way is the best way to reach myriad community-based organizations dedicated to strengthening the local community. Through associate fundraising and our dollar-for-dollar company match, SCI has contributed over $9 million to the United Way since 2014.

Local Volunteerism

Serving the communities where we work is a natural extension of our caregiving culture. From participating in 5K runs to donation drives to volunteering at local churches, our teams continuously find ways to become involved in local community events. For some, it’s an opportunity to be creative and serve those around them. For others, it's a development opportunity to lead local events.

My manager approached me about being involved with our community events. I was excited that she offered me the opportunity, and enjoyed the challenge. It’s such a benefit to be in the community, and through these events, we learn from each other.

Charitable Giving

At SCI, everything we do is in support of people – our teams, the families we serve, and the people who live in the communities where we operate. That’s why, to further drive our long-term charitable giving objectives, we funded $6 million to the SCI Foundation in 2020.

Through the SCI Foundation’s new charitable giving strategy, established in 2020, we focus our charitable giving on areas that align with our core values and business strategy, and with the causes that our associates care about the most. As part of the new strategy, our SCI Foundation giving is guided by three mission statements:

  • Honoring Those Who Serve: We are dedicated to supporting and honoring U.S. veterans.
  • Comforting Those Who Grieve: We are determined to ensure no one grieves alone.
  • Celebrating the Significance of Life: We are committed to raising awareness of the lifesaving gifts of organ, eye and tissue donation.
